If I recall correctly, a deceased JW left a substantial stock investment to the Watchtower in this corporation. Because it was profitable, the WTS retained it. But I do not think that they continue to purchase more of that stock. But you are correct to say that they are profiting from a company that produces weapons used to kill human beings.

The difference between income and expenditure is made up by realising gains on the assets held.

Having been an elder in several congregations, slaved as regular pioneer in several states. I have observed the attitude Witnesses have toward money.
Because so few of them can conscientiously attend college they must confine their careers to lower paying positions. Janitorial work, construction, are among the favorites alternatives.
Thus the average household income of jw’s is estimated at around $30-40 thousand a year.
Despite their claims, money is very important to them. When inheritances from other jw or non jw family members become an issue. Jw’s get just as vindictive and hateful or more so than any money hungry so-called ‘worldly’ person.
So it is no revelation to me, that they can so easily accept that the investment in Rand Corporation, is a good thing….”just think all that money being made from weapons manufacture, going to promote the good news of the kingdom”…….it really is easy see.

Perhaps you start with giving us the money trail you claim to have researched. It is impossible to make such a claim since the WTBS does not release such finacial trails in the first place. Sorry your money just goes into the pool of over 1 Billion dollars every year, just like all the interest earned from stocks and bonds that the Watchtower holds. You should read your own link. The Rand Energy Group Inc. is invested in many things. And these were shares of stock that were ***donated*** to the Watchtower Society by a private individual who has “retained a voting proxy for those shares.”
Besides, that some inventions can also have military applications means nothing. The presonal computer and the GPS system were originally devised for the military. Does everyone using a PC or a GPS system have an involvement with the military?
The allegation is false on its face. It is just another of the same tired old, parrot-like “revelations” that some people love to make and believe about Jehovah’s Witnesses. Just like a parrot, such people keep on repeating the same stuff, which always winds up being meaningless, misleading, inaccurate, or downright false.
Please provide evidence that the Watchtower Society is currently involved in the Rand Corporation. Provide evidence that the Watchtower Society made money off the stocks.
Corporations invest in stocks. There’s nothing sinister about it, any more than the fact that retirement funds are invested in stocks.
But this is 2010, not 2002. Where is the evidence that the Watchtower Society is currently invested in the Rand Corporation?

I love the line “reportedly owned”. Not “owned”, just “reportedly”.
If you are familiar with PRNews, a web site, you will find many “reports” by anti-JW groups that “reportedly” say many defaming things about Jehovah’s Witnesses. And because it is on the “internet”, many local papers pick up these “Press Releases” and portray them too as fact, while all they are is propaganda.
So the gifter “gave” the stock to the Society but keep control of them. Sounds like they have no control over those stocks. It sounds like the giver either needed serious tax write-offs, or was using his “unrighteous” riches for a good purpose. Have you talked to the man?
So, what you “report” is not all fact as one other answer showed.
Oh and did you do any research on the Rand Cam? I can’t find a stock listed for that corperation. Why? Because it is a penny stock and appears to be just a series of scams that suck money out people’s pockets. So, to be given 5 million shares of a worthless stock has ZERO value.

Surely those trying to defend the WTS over this have missed a very important point: in may watchtower books and magazines, Jehovah’s Witnesses have been repeatedly told that the Society is God’s clean organization because it keeps itself free from any taint of ‘the world.’ The issue has also been that only ‘Christendom’ supports any aspect of war, and are therefore out of God’s will. Only Jehovah’s Witnesses are ‘clean.’ The United Nations Organization has always been portrayed as the scarlet dragon in Watchtower books. Then it came to light that the WTS became an NGO affiliated to the U.N. Whether they fully benefitting from this venture of not, they are now tainted with ‘the world’ all over again. How can they ever accuse, e.g. the Roman Catholic Church of such hypocrisy again????
And its easy to shout ‘anti JW website’ all the time as if it shields JW’s from the truth of these things. It does not.
It does show, however, that the Watchtower Society has no interest in upholding ‘the truth.’
