When you are in finance you can do many things, which include doing financial portfolios, doing investments, or doing financial planning where as an accountant goes through documents and taxes and such for businesses and “crunches” numbers and does reports on spending and such.

Without accounting there is no finance. Finance involves analysis of reports and data that is produced by accountants.

Accounting is a much more technical and specialized skill than finance. There is no bullspit involved – it’s either right or wrong. Finance has its formulas and ratios but there is much more latitude in interpretation of these results. It allows much more creative and “outside the box” thinking.

From what I am told, sports accounting has a few quirky things about it, like amortizing franchise costs, accounting for player contracts and the like, but it’s pretty much like any other commercial accounting.
