IS TAKING A LIST OF BUSINESS CONTACTS FROM AN EMPLOYER AND USING THEM TO START A BUSINESS A CRIME IN NJ?

An worker with entrance to the database of customer addresses as well as phone numbers not long ago quit, receiving with her the printed duplicate of commercial operation contacts. Is regulating this list to begin the commercial operation of her own the crime in the state of New Jersey?

Yes, it is almost certainly a crime. Not just in NJ, but in most states.

yes it is a crime in most places. besides being highly immoral to boot.
but it could depend on any contract of employment terms of service.
there could be a loophole allowing you to do this legally.

Not unless they signed an agreement upon leaving saying they would not do the same sort of business.

under the common law of the United States it is a tort, the tort of conversion (theft) and possibly interference with Business Relationship.

There is no excuse, no matter what the ill informed post
