I’m relocating to an area with the vast early retirement race though I need to go on working. What intensity commercial operation could I begin which would support to their needs? The area I’m relocating to is nearby Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

My grandmother lives in a retirement community in Tucson and most of her friends look forward to the woman that comes with the clothes and jewelry etc.
Anything that brings things that they like TO THEM will sell like gangbusters… (I’m not sure what that saying means, but it seemed appropriate! LOL)
Anything having to do with “Personal Shoppers” or delivery or just bringing stuff to them that they are not able to get to on their own anymore is an automatic sale.
If you become licensed in massage, they LLOOVVEE that too…
A mobile pet grooming service would be great too because they can’t drive and, to be honest, at my Grandma’s community, some of their dog’s need some cleaning… Bad…
If you did “Full Service” and cleaned up any dog poop out back and groomed the dogs… that would be a great service.
many live alone, but can no longer drive due to vision problems, others may need assistance to go shopping but still like to go. You could get a van with a lift and tie downs, or keep it simpler and have a scooter carrier attached to your car. Get the word out in churches and senior centers telling people you will provide assistance with shopping, (to include putting away groceries), assistance to appointments. Be sure and make it clear you will provide a scooter (buy one) for their outings if needed. Charge realistically but enough to cover your needs.Do not expect to get rich, these people will guard their money carefully and well they should. Oh yeah, when you apply for a business license, be sure and educate yourself regarding permits, proper insurance and other important issues. Protect yourself as well as them.
Or you could clean houses and do lawns. Your fee must be lower than what is now available to them.
Finding and offering the world’s most comfortable shoes that are also the least ugly, and placing some of them as soon as you can, on clearance, for those retirees who are struggling.
Finding and offering those retirees who socialize, board games designed to sharpen memory function and cognitive speed.
Finding and offering CUTE new bib aprons that aren’t as expensive as those offered now. Nothing refreshes a devoted cook quite like a new, cute apron. And for men who love cooking.
Researching at Hammacher online to find the best of everything, including reachers, for high shelves, then offering your own links site for those who can afford the best of everything. Not just Hammacher. Research, decide, and add the link. These retirees who aren’t online have devoted adult children who do such searches. You can also link to the sites online that offer everyday living products specifically for those who have a compromising condition.
Golf towels, bridge-sized playing cards, card table covers, thicker cushions for card table chairs than commonly available, the best and most healing skin cream you can find, countertop icemakers, scrapbook supplies, and touch base with somebody willing to advertise with you for manicures and pedicures.
One that helps and gives advice on downsizing possessions, organizing, and moving to smaller or easier places to live and retirement communities. Many seniors and retirees deal with these issues all the time and adult children are not always available to help them. These often deal with moving out of a larger home, deciding what to do with heirlooms and household things, clothes and other items, and what to keep, sell or donate. You could go into the person’s home and do a consult with an estimate, and then actually help them do the work.
If you could offer these services at moderate prices, many retirees/seniors could afford them.
I live in the DC area, and there are many retirees in the Delmarva who would need your help. Sounds like a great idea. Go for it!
that is called age discrimination
Driving them for shopping and appointments.
Also, handyman services are very much needed.
I would think that anything that will provide ways to use up their idle time would be sought after.
Search out local Retirement Homes, Senior Clubs or Singles Clubs who require catering (lunches etc.).
A food delivery service of sorts. They could call you and you could take them to the grocery store, the beauty shop/barber shop, pick up food for them at a fast food place, anything along this line.
My mom lived in such a place and they had all kinds of services that came to them. Each week the produce guy. Or a cleaning service that specializes in deep down cleaning. Seniors are not able to clean behind stoves and refrigerators and such. Errands. Perhaps you could do a pharmacy day. A dry cleaning day etc. Go around and ask these people because every place supplies different services. Get a feel for your clientelle.And if you are going into homes, I HIGHLY recommend being bonded and insured and promoting that heavily. Gives people a safe feeling.
I know of many in my former home state, who had their own business that involved running errands for the Seniors who were housebound or didn’t have the means to do it themselves. They needed someone to go to the drug store, grocery store, etc. for them. I’m sure you’d do well at this type of business. Good luck!
I live 10 miles from Rehoboth Beach and can answer your question but not in this space. Let’s just say that you would have to hire a lot of good looking young men.
Cinnamon rolls and coffee
Here are some small business enterprises to consider:
1. Providing a private tutoring service ranging from music lessons, English writing and reading lessons: to training seniors on how to operate a particular computer;
2. Offering to supervise or monitor services to senior citizens especially those wanting someone to take them on errands, driving on long trips, watch and clean up homes left behind by seniors who have been relocated to assisted living quarters;
3. Becoming a regional apartment manager servicing several properties while traveling to and fro to collect monthly rents and service tenant complaints;
4. Leasing a van equipped with paper shredding machinery and go into high-income areas offering to shred their highly secretive personal papers or even allow them to do so in the privacy of their own home or office;
5. Leasing high-pressure steam cleaning equipment which can be used to remove chewing gum in front of store fronts and apartment houses and charge an appropriate hourly fee;
6. Acquiring a personal fiduciary bond up to $100,000 which will allow you to sell your services as a personal property document specialist which involves photographing and cataloging all kinds of personal property which are subject to insurance coverage; salvaging of family photo albums, etc.
Good luck!
They need someone to pick up prescriptions, deliver lunches, groceries; handyman services are greatly needed too.
