buy the things you only need!
Don’t go shopping, and don’t go places with friends that you might spend money. unless your sure you wont spend anything
You have to start thinking of money in terms of hours of work, then decide if the items you’re buying are really worth your hard earned money.
Phone your credit card company and lower your limit. If you have more than one credit card, cancel all but one.
Do you overeat? No? Then apply that same kind of control to shopping.
Ask yourself how much is enough and stick to it. (Are 12 tops enough, 20? Then stop at that.)
Being content without tons of material things does not come from outside, it comes from you.
Figure out your priorities.
Good luck!
I admire your ambition to save.
Maybe you can update your wardrobe with little things instead of complete outfits. A new belt or sweater can make a real impact without costing an arm and a leg.
Also … and this may not be your thing, but it’s worth looking into. Check out the Goodwill stores or the church mission stores. If it bothers you to think about having something a friend may have donated, go to the stores in towns around you. You’ll find super bargains and really new fashions.
Budget and Coupons, oh my.
Make a budget
List your outgoing expenses like rent, food, utilities, cable and credit cards.
Then add to it entertainment and maintenance.
Entertainment is going out to eat, to the movies, etc.
Maintenance is the hair salon, manicures, etc.
Starting in January you can start a Christmas Club savings account. It lasts about 11 months. It automatically removes a set portion form your checking to this special savings account. You can then take most of that money and put it in a higher yielding savings account. But take a small portion of the savings, wake at 4 AM and spend it on yourself during the Friday after Thanksgiving (shoppers-fest). Pour over the ads on Wednesday for some fantastic deals.
Do you have any friends that are the same size as you? When you are tired of an outfit swap it for one of theirs.
Go through your closet and see what matches, what fits, etc. You can sell your clothes for $5 or so on ebay or pennysaverusa.
Throw your coins in a jar. Once a month (while watching TV) roll the coins and take them to the bank for your savings account.
Oh there are soooo many options. Here are just 15 tips to save without realising you’re saving and tightning your belt:
