you start by going to the library and take a note pad. You ask the reference desk librarian what book she would recommend that you read before starting your own business.
Hi! I clean small offices and have friends that do residential. I think if you are just starting out, you should concentrate on one or the other and not get too scattered. If you target the ‘right’ customers, you should be up and running in no time.
First, call your local city or county clerk’s office to ask what, if any, licenses or permits might be required. If they aren’t required, you could do without for awhile. Licenses and permits are good for a sales tool and to open a business bank account, but the government uses them to keep track of you and tax you, etc.
Next, call a lot of insurance agencies and get quotes on the amount of liability insurance or a bond that you want. This is important because it will protect you from claims (usually false) of damage or theft, plus it is a terrific sales tool. The price varies a lot so do call a lot of agencies. Once you have your liability insurance stay friendly with the agent. They can be great for a ‘heads up’ on new businesses or new home owners leads.
There’s a lot more. I have tons of tips and great resources for you that will help you get started right on my Squidoo lens about starting a cleaning business and blog. The links are in my Profile.
Good Luck–you can do this!
