Dear Sir,

I have chosen to quit smoking for three reasons: health, economics, and social convenience. . . .

To date my attempts at quitting have been unsuccessful due to lack of commitment, lack of information, and lack of . . . .

This time, however, . . . .

“People always come up to me and say that my smoking is bothering them… Well, it’s killing me!” This quote, even though it was said in jest, beautifully sums up how I feel about smoking and why it is important to quit.

NOte: This can be your opening sentence. In the second paragraph, talk further about how smoking harms people. Give some hard hitting statistics.

In the next paragraph, further develop the letter by saying that it is very difficult to stop, but it does not mean it cannot be done. Perhaps you can mention some famous people who used to be smokers, but have now quit.

End the letter by again stressing how smoking is so dangerous, and quitting it is probably the best gift anyone can give to themselves.
