I have a degree in business and the concentration was MIS or management information systems. My degree is actually a Bachelor of Business administration in Management Information Systems. Alot of universities are doing this now, they may even call it Computer Information systems or Business Information systems.

The degree requires you to take all of the business courses for the business degree and computer courses for the MIS concentration. For a minor you would only contact the school of the minor you want to pursue and take the required classes to give you your minor. Usually a minor requires just a couple classes shy of what the majors specific courses were.

Say you have to take 7 specific computer science classes for a major in Computer science. The school of computer science may have it setup where they will award a minor to someone who is getting another degree if they take 5 of those same 7 that a CS major needs to take. This is how you get the minor. Alot of people use these minor courses as their open electives that they have to take for their regular major…killing two birds with one stone..

My wife actually graduated with a Bachelor in Business administration with two minors, one in mathematics and the other in Computer information systems. If she had took one other CS class and two other just required elective classes of the CIS major, she would have had a double major instead of a major and a double minor…but she was ready to get out of school.
