My wife recently found herself unemployed so she used the opportunity to look for a change of career. She was really stuck until she found the website in the box below which gives instruction on how to choose a career. Now she understands where she’s headed, and more importantly how to arrive.
Able to multitask, analyze figures and IMMEDIATELY notice something is wrong, be able to work long hours during month, quarter, and year-end closing, must be personable as your answers come from varied sources, GREAT writing skills….those are the bare basics.
You really have to be more specific than to just say finance. There are a bunch of different subcategories with very difference day to day experiences and difference talent requirements. For instance you could want to be an investment banker or a business finance analyst which is like an accountant or CPA. Then there are stock brokers, bench traders, economists and hedge fund managers. There are really a lot of options in finance.
If you really like to study economics then it might be right up your alley. You will need to be a logical thinker and obviously you must like to work with figures. You should be pretty fluent with statistics and reading charts.
Your college would forcce you to take a lot of math as well including calculus up to differential equations.
If you decide to get into a position that deals with people such as a loan broker or a stock broker, you are going to need excellent communication skills and even sales skills.
