HOW DO YOU DO THIS MATH PROBLEM?

Michael invested partial of his $10,000 reward in the account which paid an 11% distinction as well as invested the rest in batch which suffered the 4% loss. Find the volume of any investment if his altogether net distinction was $650. How do we do this problem?

x = amount invested at 11% return
y = amount invested at 4% loss

Total investment: x+y = 10000
Total return: 0.11x – 0.04y = 650

x = 10000 – y
0.11(10000-y) – 0.04y = 650
1100 – 0.15y = 650
0.15y = 450
y= 3000
x = 10000-3000 = 7000

Mikey invested 7000 in the profitable fund and 3000 in the losing fund. Good thing he didn’t do it the other way around. He lost 120 in on and gained 770 in the other for a net gain of 650.
