Well, you can invest in a business. You can buy company stocks or mutual or index funds.

You can buy rental property and make passive monthly income. There are a number of ways.

Get a good stock broker and talk to a head accountant at your bank. They’ll tell you where to invest at depending on what level of risk you want to have

GET HELP! If you have to ask that question here, you don’t want to invest that kind of money yourself. A bank or stock broker will help you. Mention that number and you’ll be treated like royalty. Good luck

If you want to invest money regardless of the amount, you have to understand that there is “risk vs reward”.

If you want to play it safe, you can collect interest (like a government savings bonds). The US government is borrowing your money and you will earn a small % of it each year. The only way you can’t get paid is if the US government falls apart which is pretty unlikely. Currently a 3 year is 1.5%, 10 year is 3.5% and 30 year will give you 4.3%.

On the other end, if you are not afraid of risk, there are plenty of capital investments that you can make. Like trading currencies or individual stocks. They could potentially return more money, but they can also lose you money. That’s where the risk comes into play. If you go this route then you should seek a private banker that you can trust. You should also find a good personal accountant. Because if you really have that much money, you should set it up in the best possible way so the tax man takes as little of it as possible.

The great thing about having a lot of money, like 1 million is that you gives you a lot more options that people with small amounts don’t have.

For example, you can trade real estate (this requires ability) or buy a safer business, like that McDonalds near that high school, etc. But that would require that you be successful at managing it. Without those abilities, you end up losing your money too.

It really depends on your risk tolerance and what abilities you have.

These answers are all so interesting. I would have to disagree with most of them. Not to be a jerk, or know-it-all, but from personal experience and the experience of our firms mentors and advisory board.

Real Estate? No. Simply because of the average rate of appreciation. Generally, most would agree that it is somewhere between 3-12%. Not really very good. Not to mention the only way to see the yields are to sell or finance against the asset. On the cash flow side, it is usually not very high. Especially when measured by a cashflowing business of sorts.

Stocks? No. No way. The stock market limiting in leveraging power. Very limiting. It is also utilizes a very defensive strategy. The market moves, then you move, trying to catch the waves. There is a reason the big boys do not entertain stocks for their primary investments. Investing requires offensive investing.

The best? Secured Structure Venture Capital Investing (SSCVI). Why? Becuase it out performs stocks 12/1. Terms are usually from 1 year to 25 years with average ROI of 8-50%+ Why do large investment firms opt to invest into Venture Capital type structures? For the very reason of security. Some who are not involved say it is too risky. More often than not, it is much less risk. The investments are secured by equity (ownership) which gives control in the most important aspect of the business venture. -Management and System Development. These are continuously reviewed and refined to make execution of the plan a success.

So much to say on this. I would recommend contacting Empower to learn more of structuring and securing investments into Secured Structure Venture Capital Investing. I am sure you will be pleased.
