If there is a profit sharing plan, then there must be a Plan Document. It is the legal details of the plan, how it works and who is eligible. He needs to get that document and read it thoroughly. That way he knows what he’s getting into if, in fact, he decides that this is right for him.

Profit sharing as the word implies, means that your boyfriend gets a share of the profits of the company Normally, profit sharing is given as a (free) benefit to permanent employees of the company in order to secure their loyalty if they prove to be valuable assets to the company. Investing in profit sharing, I suppose, means that your boyfriend is contemplating on buying shares of stocks in Walgreen’s in order to avail of dividends that the company pays its shareholders after a profitable year of operation. (just like the way a bank pays you interest if you save your money with them). For a 22 year old, I sense that he is financially all together, the way he puts his money to good use. He is a smart kid. Being a stockholder (or part-owner) of a company doesn’t stop just because you left the company. Your shares of stock means you are a part owner of the company, you just stopped working for it, just like if Bill Gates retired, he still owns Microsoft although he stopped working for it.
