You need to do some more research before you purchase big companies. Buy companies with at least cost $5 or less you will get a better return because they are cheap. Buy cheap sell high. Buy it when it is cheap and sell it when the price triple you will get rich.
Buy Low, Sell High.
There’s a difference between cheap and low.
Many times cheap stocks are that way for a reason. No one thinks very highly of their future.
I’d much rather have a $100 stock that returns 25% on my investment than a $5 stock that returns 10%.

it’s Berkshire Hathway’s latest stock issuance. Probably only going to go up, steadily.
It also depends on your time frame. Most school projects are too short range — like a semester– to accurately predict stocks. The market can be very volatile in the short run.
But, I like:
APWR
F
TSL
but they may not pop in the next few months. It may take longer than you need for your project.
A couple of penny stocks that are high risk but if they go, you’ll get huge returns.
AFPW
HGUE
UBRG
The stocks you want to focus on is consumer staples, consumer discretionary, and healthcare. These are DEFENSIVE stocks that will survive through good and bad times. Most of my positions are in these stocks. Some names include 3M, Procter & Gamble, Kimberly Clark, Exxon Mobil, Walmart, Costco. Everybody’s got to eat and wipe their butts regardless of the state of economy. Many of these companies survived through the Great Depression.
That’s the benefits. You can sleep at night knowing your money is doing well. There are NO guarantees that you won’t lose money. It’s just that these stocks are the best. They pay good dividends too.
Then once you’re comfortable and test the waters of the market, you can finally put some real money in. Go to Scottrade.com. They’re excellent for beginners.
